Podcast 008 - OHM - Circus Of Sound

OHM - Circus Of Sound

In todays Podcast I talk to Chris Poland (Guitar) and Robbie Pagliari ( Bass) about the new OHM CD - Circus Of Sound.  Robbie has played with various top flight artists such as Steve Lukather and Frank Gambale. Chris of course (among other things) was guitarist with Metal group - Megadeath with Dave Mustaine and has released numerous OHM and solo albums.

I talk with Robbie and Chris about their influences, touring with technology and the OHM songwriting process. The Podcast includes tracks from the album and the boys provide insights to the inspirations and joys of working with drummers Joel Taylor, Kofi Baker and Frank Briggs.

You can get more information about OHM here, and you can buy the CD here

Bitches Brew Radio-PBSFM 106.7 Tuesday September 2nd 2008

We will kick off with a great tune from Phil Turcios new album Signals, then a superb release from the ECM lable with Nik Bartsch-Holon.

From Germany on the Rodenstein label-Fridge People and some very groovy Jazz Fusion.

New also from Jeff Richman-Aqua.

Session player John Pena has finally released a solo CD- Call It Grace, something worth listening to as well.

Tune in for these and many more.

A Blast from the past.

In 1975 Hungarian guitarist Gabo Szabo went into the studio with Bob James, Harvey Mason, Ralph McDonald among others to record the album Macho.

I dragged it out of the cupboard and recall what a great album this was.

With Gypsy, Spanish and even Indian influences Gabor Szabo made some great music.

This was his third and last album for the CTI label.

The title track Macho is excellent listening.

Gabor passed away in February of 1982

Highly reccommended.

Another old favourite of mine is an album by Joe Farrell (one of my favourite sax players).

Joe is no longer with us as he passed away in 1986, but he has left behind much great music.

Outback on the CTI label was recorded in 1971 by Rudy Van Gelder, features Elvin Jones, Chick Corea and Buster Williams.

This is great Jazz from a fabulous quartet and particularly Joe Farrell, equally adept on flute as well as Sax.
