Bernhard Lackner-In Between

Just enjoying this release from Bassist Bernhard Lackner.

Bernhard is an Austrian based in Nashville and the album was produced by that other great bass player Adam Nitti.

Adam Nitti’s recent CD Liminal is reviewed elswhere on this site.

Very melodic music 8 tracks in all with guests Adam Holzman on keys, Derico Watson Drums, and Steve Cunningham plays some really nice lap steel throughout.

Love his thick sound and great and great compositions. Also love the great keyboard solo from Adam Holzman on Being Away track 6.

Anthony Jackson-Yiorgos Fakanas-Interspirit

Anthony Jackson has been a much in demand Bass player for a very long time.
In all those years he has played with too many people to mention.
At last he has come up with a project featuring fellow bassist Yiorgos Fakanas.

Frank Gambale, Mitch Forman and Dave Weckl are just some of the featured musicians together with a killer horn section and string quartet.

Apart from the tune Footprints all music is composed by Yiorgos Fakanas.

If you are a Mahavishnu fan like me, you will love this !

From 1972, live at Syracuse University.

This was “The” band of the day, probably one of the greatest Jaz Rock Fusion  bands ever.

John McLaughlin And The 4th Dimension- To The One

Finally got hold of this new release from John McLaughlin with his 4th Dimension Band.

Boy what a band !

On Bass from Cameroon, Etienne M’Bappe

On Drums- Mark Mondesir

On Keys-Gary Husband -(Also features on Drums)

As always McLaughlin is stunning with his music, and his band is a killer !
Prior to his Industrial Zen release in 2006 ( his last for a major label), his last release was Thieves and Poets (2003)
It is great to see that John has been so active lately.
Floating Point for me in 2008 was a highlight. The DVD The Making of Floating Point set in India was incredible !
Also check out his Live in Belgrade DVD release with the 4th Dimension with Dominique di Piazza on Bass.

A must for McLaughlin fans!

Mederic Collignon -Shangri Tunkashi La

As a lifetime fan of Miles Davis, I am always keen to hear new interpretations of his music.
Mederic Collignon’s Shangri Tunkashi La is a more recent one and what a stunner it is !

Mederic has collaborated with Louis Sclavis, and that should say alot.
The music here is from Davis’ electric period of the 60′ and 70’s, classic stuff.
Also check out  all the voices on this-Interesting !

Another CD I have been listening to recently is the new one by Brian Bromberg-Is What It Is.

Brian reminds us that on this album, there are no Guitar melodies or guitar solos.

Only piccolo basses are used, quite amazing.

This is the smoother side of fusion but I love it !!

And by the way the horn section on this album is Killing!!

Album Review-Mark Egan-Truth Be Told

markegan_truthbetold_jk

I first heard Mark Egan when he played with Elements and of course with Pat Metheny. I love his bass sound and he has come up with a new release that you have to have. Mark has assembled a brilliant cast-

Bill Evans-Sax
Vinnie Colaiuta-Drums
Mitch Forman-Keys
Roger Squitero on Percussion.

One of my favourite tracks is Cafe Risque, with Mitch playing some great keys and Marks Bass as haunting as ever. Vinnie as usual is magic throughout the album. This is a must listen for fusion and jazz fans alike.

Here is a sample from the track “Cafe Risque”.

What I’m listening to right now

Adam Nitti has a come up with another great CD-Liminal.

Title track just blows me away, great bass playing from Adam, almost sounding Marcus like but soon breaking away to some awesome stuff.

Nice guitar breaks from Shane Theriot. Jeff Coffin also features on sax.

Distraction features a great keyboard solo from Alex Argento, and a fantastic drum outro from Marcus Finnie.

Redemption street goes down south with beautiful Hammond B-3 from Johnny Neal and more great guitar picking from Shane Theriot.

Adam goes solo with The Last Walk home and follows quickly with Not Forsaken with drum loops and Shane Cunningham on Lap Steel Guitar.

The Good Foot is all funk yeah!

Highly reccommended. Get it here.
